Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono of the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry in Jakarta recently provided assurance regarding the availability of fish stocks to cater to the public’s needs during the holy month of Ramadan and the festive season of Eid al-Fitr. Through a comprehensive analysis conducted by the ministry, it has been determined that the demand for fish across various consumption centers can be adequately met without any disruptions, ensuring a smooth supply chain for all.
During a recent meeting with Commission IV of the House of Representatives, Minister Trenggono shared insights into the meticulous analysis carried out by his ministry. By carefully considering the availability of fish and the specific needs of each consumption center, the ministry has confirmed that there will be no shortage of fish during the crucial period of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. This proactive approach underscores the ministry’s commitment to ensuring food security and meeting the dietary requirements of the population during significant cultural and religious events.
Despite the expected surge in demand for fish during Ramadan and leading up to Eid al-Fitr, Minister Trenggono expressed confidence that fish prices will remain stable. Through vigilant monitoring and supervision, the ministry aims to prevent any unjustified price hikes and maintain affordability for consumers across the country. This proactive stance highlights the government’s dedication to upholding economic stability and safeguarding the welfare of its citizens, particularly during times of heightened demand and seasonal festivities.
Looking ahead, the ministry has forecasted a total fish production of 3.06 million tons for the period spanning January to March 2025. This projection includes 1.59 million tons of farmed fish and 1.47 million tons of captured fish, indicating a robust supply that is expected to meet the dietary requirements of the population during the upcoming months. Minister Trenggono reiterated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring adequate fish availability and emphasized that the projected production figures are more than sufficient to meet the needs of the community during the festive season.
In addition to monitoring overall production levels, the ministry has also identified specific locations that may be vulnerable to fish shortages during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. Key areas such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Makassar, Ambon, and Banjarmasin have been singled out for targeted interventions to ensure a stable supply of fish. By proactively addressing potential gaps in distribution and supply chain logistics, the government aims to prevent any disruptions in fish availability and maintain a consistent flow of essential food items to these critical regions.
Through these strategic initiatives and coordinated efforts, Minister Trenggono expressed optimism that the community’s fish needs will be adequately met without any hindrances during the upcoming festive season. By closely monitoring production levels, conducting thorough analyses, and implementing targeted interventions in vulnerable areas, the ministry is committed to ensuring food security and upholding the well-being of the population during times of heightened demand and cultural significance. This proactive approach reflects the government’s unwavering dedication to meeting the dietary needs of its citizens and maintaining stability in the food supply chain.
