The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports is stepping up to the plate to handle the preparation of athletes from table tennis, boxing, and climbing for the SEA Games in Thailand from December 9–20, 2025. “We will manage the preparations for boxing, table tennis, and climbing (athletes) for the SEA Games,” Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo told the media here on Tuesday. With issues plaguing the sports’ governing organizations, particularly table tennis and boxing, the ministry is taking charge to ensure the athletes are ready to compete.
The table tennis sports organization has been dealing with dual governance for over 10 years, causing confusion and hindering the progress of the athletes. On the other hand, boxing athletes are facing a different challenge as they are no longer under the oversight of the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) following Pertina’s expulsion from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI). These setbacks have prompted the Ministry of Youth and Sports to intervene and make sure the athletes are well-prepared for the upcoming SEA Games.
Minister Ariotedjo revealed that the ministry will conduct a national selection process to choose the best athletes to represent Indonesia in the 2025 SEA Games. This rigorous selection will ensure that only the most skilled and capable athletes get the opportunity to showcase their talents on the regional stage. Additionally, the central management of the Indonesian Climbing Federation (PP FPTI) has reached out to the ministry for assistance in preparing the climbing athletes for the SEA Games, which are held biennially.
Despite the challenges faced by some sports branches due to the absence of new organizations, Minister Ariotedjo reassured that the athletes will receive the support they need to compete and succeed in international competitions. The goal is to empower the athletes and provide them with the necessary resources to reach their full potential on the global stage. The ministry’s involvement in the preparation process will ensure that all obstacles are overcome, and the athletes are well-equipped to represent Indonesia with pride at the SEA Games.
In a show of solidarity and commitment to the sports community, the ministry has taken on the responsibility of managing the preparations for boxing, table tennis, and climbing athletes. By stepping in to address the issues affecting these sports’ governing bodies, the ministry is demonstrating its dedication to the development and success of Indonesian athletes. With the national selection process underway and the support of the ministry behind them, the athletes are poised to make a strong impact at the 2025 SEA Games.
As preparations continue and the athletes gear up for the upcoming competition, the Ministry of Youth and Sports remains focused on providing the necessary guidance and support to ensure their success. The collaboration between the ministry and the sports organizations highlights the importance of working together to overcome challenges and achieve common goals. With the SEA Games fast approaching, all eyes are on the Indonesian athletes as they prepare to showcase their skills and passion for sports on the regional stage.
The ministry’s proactive approach to managing the preparations for boxing, table tennis, and climbing athletes sets a positive example for the sports community. By taking the lead and addressing issues head-on, the ministry is paving the way for a successful and productive collaboration between all stakeholders involved. With the support of the ministry, the athletes are in good hands as they embark on their journey to the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand.
