Uncovering the Mystery of the Sea Fences Installation by Local Fishermen in Tangerang
In a coastal area in Tangerang, Banten, a fisherman named Trisno (45) witnessed the installation of a 30.16 km-long sea fence made of bamboo. According to Tribun Tangerang, Trisno mentioned that the sea fences were typically installed from morning until early afternoon. The installation process involved several individuals from Tanjung Kait Village, Tangerang, using small boats to transport the bamboo materials.
The Fishermen’s Testimony
Trisno revealed that the installation work was a manual process done by individuals on small boats, emphasizing the careful and labor-intensive nature of the task. Despite the lack of visibility of police boats during the installation, Trisno expressed concerns about accidentally hitting the sea fences and facing potential consequences for damages incurred.
Trisno’s account shed light on the challenges faced by traditional fishermen navigating the waters where the sea fences were installed. The absence of proper authorization for the construction of these sea fences raised questions about potential disruptions to the fishermen’s activities and sparked speculations about larger development projects in the area.
The Enforcement Action Taken
Following the unauthorized installation of the sea fences, the Directorate General of Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervision (PSDKP) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries sealed off the mysterious sea fences. Special Staff to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries for Public Relations and Communications, Doni Ismanto Darwin, confirmed that this action was a direct directive from Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.
Doni highlighted Minister Trenggono’s instructions for the PSDKP to conduct thorough investigations and seal off the sea fences, emphasizing the government’s commitment to addressing unauthorized marine constructions that disrupt local activities. The lack of proper permits for the sea fences underscored the urgency of regulating coastal developments to ensure the sustainability of marine resources and protect the livelihoods of traditional fishermen.
