Smooth Delivery Services Uninterrupted Despite Eid Transportation Restrictions

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often take for granted the intricate dance of logistics that ensures the products we rely on make their way to our doorsteps. Behind the scenes, countless efforts are made to navigate challenges and restrictions, such as the recent transportation limitations imposed during the Eid season in Indonesia.

The Indonesian National Shipowners’ Association (INSA) has stepped up to the plate, assuring the public that container shipments will proceed smoothly despite the government’s 16-day restriction on freight transport from March 24 to April 8, 2025. Carmelita Hartoto, Chairwoman of INSA, emphasized the proactive nature of the shipping process, stating that shipments had been arranged well in advance of the restrictions.

“It’s a matter of preparation. The containers were dispatched long before the limitations were enforced, so the operations at the ports shouldn’t face significant disruptions,” Carmelita expressed during a gathering at Kempinski Jakarta on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

While the groundwork had been laid, Carmelita acknowledged the concerns of business owners regarding containers that had already arrived and suggested discounts or free storage at ports to alleviate the impact of the transport restrictions on these shipments.

The human touch of this situation comes to light as Carmelita empathetically shared the sentiments of her peers, underlining the importance of ensuring a seamless process for all involved parties during this challenging period. The need for collaboration and support within the industry becomes evident as efforts are made to navigate the obstacles presented by the transportation limitations.

Supporting Eid Travel and Safety

Beyond the realm of commercial shipping, INSA is also committed to supporting the smooth flow of Eid holiday travel this year. Carmelita stressed the organization’s dedication to enhancing safety as a top priority during the 2025 Eid travel season.

“INSA is fully committed to supporting the Ministry of Transportation’s operational plans by emphasizing the two non-negotiable aspects of safety and security in maritime transport,” she affirmed.

As the government implements restrictions on the transportation of goods during the Eid travel period, guidelines outlined in a Joint Decree (SKB) No. 05/PKS/Db/2025 regulate road traffic and crossings during the holiday season in 2025/1446 H.

These restrictions specifically target freight transport vehicles, such as trucks with three or more axles, truck-trailer combinations, articulated vehicles, as well as trucks carrying excavation materials, mining products, and building supplies. The limitations apply to both toll and non-toll roads from Monday, March 24, 2025, at 00:00 local time, through Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 24:00 local time.

For the 2025 Eid holiday, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) estimates that approximately 146.48 million people will embark on the annual exodus known as mudik, representing 52% of Indonesia’s total population.

Even with the anticipated reduction in travel congestion due to the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy, which is expected to lessen the peak traffic on the eve of Eid, it remains crucial to remain vigilant and ensure the smooth and safe passage of travelers.

In the intricate tapestry of logistics and travel restrictions, the commitment of organizations like INSA plays a vital role in ensuring that the wheels of commerce keep turning smoothly, even in the face of challenges. As we navigate these restrictions, let us remember the dedication and effort that go into delivering the goods we rely on, day in and day out.
