PGN’s Transformative CSR Programs in 4 Adopted Villages

In a groundbreaking move towards social innovation, PT PGN Tbk, a Gas Pertamina Subholding company, has been actively implementing various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in villages near its operational areas. These initiatives aim to elevate these villages to become self-sufficient and prosperous, ultimately supporting sustainable development efforts.

Currently, four adopted villages have emerged as shining examples of PGN’s robust CSR programs. These villages include Desa Pagardewa, Kelurahan Harjamukti, Kelurahan Tembesi in Batam, and Desa Kalisogo in Sidoarjo.

Empowering Communities Through Innovative Initiatives

One of the standout programs is in Desa Pagardewa, located near the Offtake Station Pagardewa in Muara Enim, Sumatera Selatan. Here, initiatives like establishing the “Padetra Arto Mulyo” Farmers’ Cooperative to boost the local economy and developing Eco Tourism (Embungs) have taken root. The village has also seen improvements in clean water management, waste segregation, health, and education.

The impact of these programs is evident, with the establishment of the only water source in Lubai Ulu district amounting to 22,500 m3, the protection of a 4,480 HA rubber plantation, and an increase in residents’ income.

Environmental Conservation and Community Welfare

In Harjamukti, the creation of a Waste Bank to reduce incinerated waste and the production of Eco Enzyme as a soil conditioner are notable initiatives. Efforts to enhance health standards through providing supplementary feeding for stunted children, assisting in business permits for MSME owners, and supporting economic growth are also underway.

In Kelurahan Tembesi, initiatives such as the establishment of the “Walidah” Waste Bank and the “Agro Hijau” Women’s Farmer Group aim to uplift the local economy and boost productivity. The empowerment of the Independent Creative Women’s Group (KPKM) has resulted in the production of local snacks, recycled crafts, soap, and herbal drinks.

Sustainable Solutions for a Brighter Future

The program in Desa Kalisogo, Sidoarjo, focuses on a Waste Management Site for Maggot cultivation as fish feed and the construction of a Tarpaulin Fish Pond to support fish farming. These initiatives underscore PGN’s commitment to ongoing social and environmental responsibility, ensuring that the Adopted Village programs continue to provide economic and environmental benefits to the communities they serve.

As Susi Nurwulandari, PGN’s Acting Corporate Secretary, aptly puts it, “The initiatives in social and environmental responsibility will continue to be implemented by PGN, including the Adopted Village program, which delivers economic and environmental benefits to the community.”
