PT Pertamina Receives High Marks for Climate Change Initiatives
Jakarta, March 15, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) has recently been awarded a B score by the global non-profit organization CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project).
The B-level “Management” score reflects CDP’s recognition of Pertamina’s initiatives that contribute to climate change mitigation and water resilience. Vice President Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, explained that since joining the CDP Climate Change initiative in 2021, Pertamina has been reporting on decarbonization implementation. In 2023, Pertamina once again achieved a B score.
Pertamina’s Environmental Initiatives
Pertamina has also disclosed Water Security data with a B- rating. Fadjar clarified that with this score, Pertamina is considered to be at a management level, indicating that the company has addressed the environmental impacts of its business and ensured good environmental management.
Pertamina’s climate change initiatives include decarbonization, energy transition through the development of new businesses, the development of new and renewable energy sources (EBT), and water efficiency using Pertamina Water Tools, an internal innovation tool to identify and mitigate water risks in the company’s operational areas.
CDP’s Recognition and Pertamina’s Influence
By engaging in CDP reporting, Pertamina can create a higher level of accountability regarding environmental responsibility in the eyes of stakeholders and enhance its competitiveness in the industry. Fadjar added that Pertamina’s score is on par with the average industry score for oil and gas extraction and production, with a B score for the Climate category and a B- score for the Water category.
CDP Director, Dexter Galvin, revealed that Pertamina has a significant impact on the environment and society. The company has played a proactive role in managing these risks through its participation in CDP reporting.
