Empowering Communities Through Pertamina’s Energy Self-Reliant Village Program
In a bid to celebrate its 67th anniversary, PT Pertamina (Persero) is actively strengthening its role in supporting clean energy transition and energy self-reliance through the development of the Energy Self-Reliant Village Program (DEB). As of December 2024, a total of 149 DEBs are operational, with an additional 64 new villages added in 2024 across various regions in Indonesia.
VP Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, highlighted that the DEB Program is designed to provide clean energy access to communities using renewable sources such as solar power, wind, micro-hydro, and biogas. These villages can now harness renewable energy to support various productive activities, including livestock processing, local handicraft production, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) development.
One prime example of a DEB in action is in Desa Junti, Indramayu Regency. Here, the installation of a solar power system with a capacity of 7.7 kWp has enhanced irrigation access for farmers. The solar-powered system operates water pumps for agricultural needs, resulting in increased productivity and income for 60 farmers and 180 agricultural laborers.
The positive impact of the DEB Program was echoed by the District Head of Juntinyuat, Rusyad Nurdin, who expressed appreciation for the initiative. Collaborating with Pertamina Gas has led to increased food self-sufficiency and improved crop yields for local farmers, setting the stage for sustainable agricultural practices.
Commitment to Youth Education and Clean Energy Transition
Apart from the DEB Program, Pertamina is dedicated to promoting clean energy utilization among the younger generation through the Self-Reliant Energy School Program (SEB). Schools near Pertamina’s operational areas have been equipped with renewable energy facilities, specialized curricula, and practical training to enhance clean energy literacy among students and teachers.
I Wayan Sucipta, the Head of SMA Negeri 8 Denpasar, one of the SEBs, expressed gratitude for Pertamina’s efforts in educating students and educators about energy transition and clean energy usage. He emphasized the importance of instilling environmental consciousness in the youth to safeguard the planet for future generations.
As Pertamina commemorates its 67th anniversary, the commitment to expanding these programs remains steadfast. The aim is to ensure that the benefits of clean energy reach a wider segment of the Indonesian population, aligning with the government’s target of achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060.
Contributing to Sustainable Development Goals and Environmental Conservation
Pertamina’s initiatives not only contribute to reducing carbon emissions but also support the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of clean and affordable energy, decent work and economic growth, and climate action. By focusing on clean energy development at the village level, Pertamina is actively driving progress towards a more sustainable future.
As a leading company in the energy transition sector, Pertamina is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission target for 2060 by continually advocating for programs that directly impact the achievement of SDGs. These efforts are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices across all Pertamina’s business lines and operations.
