Pertamina Energy Terminal and Krakatau Steel Group Join Forces for Environmental Sustainability
Jakarta, December 19, 2024 – In a groundbreaking move towards environmental sustainability, PT Pertamina Energy Terminal (PET) has officially signed two Memoranda of Understanding with the Krakatau Steel Group. The collaboration includes PT Krakatau Baja Konstruksi (KBK), PT Krakatau Tirta Industri (KTI), PT Krakatau Tirta Operasi dan Pemeliharaan (KTOP), and PT Catur Eka Mandiri (CEM).
Key Collaboration Details
The primary objective of this partnership is to leverage production efficiency technologies and water supply within the Pertamina Group’s environment, aligning with the vision of energy resilience and environmental sustainability. PET’s President Director, Bayu Prostiyono, emphasized the significance of this collaboration as a pivotal milestone for PET’s business diversification and growth.
“This collaboration represents a tangible diversification of business for the company’s growth. It also supports business initiatives from the Water Operation sector and industrial growth through modern and efficient technology. This collaboration strengthens our efforts to achieve national energy resilience,” stated Bayu.
The collaboration agreement includes various key points. Firstly, between PET, KBK, and CEM, it encompasses the development and implementation of production efficiency technologies. One of the prioritized innovations is Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) control technology, a hazardous compound that poses threats to life and the environment.
This technology is designed to reduce corrosion impacts in the upstream sector of the Pertamina Group, thereby enhancing the lifespan of industrial equipment and operational efficiency. The second agreement involves PET’s collaboration with KTI and KTOP, focusing on water supply using Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Technology.
Environmental Impact and Future Prospects
This technology allows the processing of seawater into fresh water for consumption needs, following pH indicators based on the Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023, as well as water requirements for construction in various industrial sectors. This initiative is expected to support operational efficiency within the Pertamina Group and drive environmental sustainability.
This strategic partnership is anticipated to strengthen PET’s position as a pioneer in eco-friendly technological innovation while supporting the national energy sustainability program. With this initiative, PET aims to deliver tangible benefits not only to the industrial sector but also to the broader community, emphasizing a commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.
