Jabotabek Sees 1.3 Million Vehicles Leave During Christmas 2024

Jakarta, December 26 – During the seven days leading up to Christmas 2024, a staggering 1,332,878 vehicles departed the Jabotabek region, according to PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk. The exodus took place between Wednesday and Wednesday (December 18-25, 2024).

The cumulative traffic volume leaving Jabotabek encompassed four main Toll Gates (GT): GT Cikupa (heading towards Merak), GT Ciawi (heading towards Puncak), GT Cikampek Utama (heading towards Trans Jawa), and GT Kalihurip Utama (heading towards Bandung). This figure represented an 18.2% increase compared to normal traffic flow (1,127,730 vehicles). In contrast to the Christmas period in 2023, the total traffic volume was 6.5% lower (1,425,830 vehicles).

Distribution of Outbound Traffic

Majority of the traffic departing Jabotabek was headed east, with 632,534 vehicles (47.46%) moving towards Trans Jawa and Bandung, followed by 403,221 vehicles (30.25%) heading west to Merak, and 297,123 vehicles (22.29%) going south towards Puncak.

Eastern Traffic Flow (Trans Jawa & Bandung)

For vehicles exiting Jabotabek towards Trans Jawa via GT Cikampek Utama on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, the count stood at 334,633 vehicles, marking a 51.0% increase from normal traffic levels. Meanwhile, those heading towards Bandung through GT Kalihurip Utama on the Cipularang Toll Road totaled 297,901 vehicles, reflecting a 20.5% surge from regular traffic flow. The combined traffic heading east via these two GTs amounted to 632,534 vehicles, up by 34.9% compared to normal flow.

Western Traffic Flow (Merak)

Traffic departing Jabotabek towards Merak through GT Cikupa on the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road amounted to 403,221 vehicles, marking a 5.7% increase from normal traffic levels.

Southern Traffic Flow (Puncak)

Simultaneously, the number of vehicles leaving Jabotabek for Puncak through GT Ciawi on the Jagorawi Toll Road was 297,123 vehicles, showing a 7.1% increase from normal traffic levels.

Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head at Jasa Marga, Lisye Octaviana, reported that on Christmas Day 2024, 162,780 vehicles exited Jabotabek through the four main toll gates, marking a 21.7% increase from normal traffic levels. Notably, there was a surge in vehicles heading east towards Trans Jawa and Bandung at GT Cikampek Utama, with 48,287 vehicles (an 84.3% increase) and GT Kalihurip Utama, with 35,900 vehicles (a 33.7% increase).

Reflecting on the heightened traffic volume leaving Jabotabek towards the east and south, Lisye emphasized the importance of Jasa Marga’s toll road services being optimally prepared, especially along popular tourist destinations during the long holiday period. As vehicles started to return to Jabotabek, there was a 19.1% increase in traffic volume heading towards Jakarta through GT Cikampek Utama and GT Kalihurip Utama.

Jasa Marga urged toll road users to prepare adequately for travel during the Christmas and New Year holiday period, ensuring their vehicles and drivers are in top condition, with sufficient fuel and electronic money card balances. The company advised travelers to use their time wisely, take sufficient breaks at rest areas, and comply with road signs and field personnel directions.
