Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi emphasized the crucial role of veterinarians in the government’s Free Nutritious Meals program aimed at improving people’s nutritional intake.
Why Veterinarians Are Essential
According to Mauladi, veterinarians are instrumental in meeting the people’s need for animal proteins, which are essential components of the free nutritious meals program. Their expertise helps the government achieve self-sufficiency in fulfilling the country’s animal protein requirements, thereby reducing dependence on livestock imports.
Challenges and Solutions
Despite the importance of veterinarians in the program, Indonesia is facing a shortage of these professionals, with only around 13,500 currently in the country. To address this issue, Mauladi highlighted the necessity of adding 50 thousand more veterinarians and increasing the number of higher education institutions offering veterinary medicine programs.

To bolster the veterinary workforce, Mauladi revealed that discussions are underway in the House of Representatives (DPR) to pass the Bill of Veterinary Education and Services.
