Former Surabaya High Court Chief Rudi Suparmono Named Suspect in Bribery Case Involving Acquittal of Ronald Tannur
Jakarta – The Attorney General’s Office has declared former Surabaya District Court Chief Rudi Suparmono a suspect in a bribery case related to the acquittal of Gregorius Ronald Tannur. Rudi is suspected of receiving a bribe amounting to 43,000 Singapore Dollars (SGD) or around Rp511,536,600 directly from Ronald’s lawyer, Lisa Rahmat, in connection to Ronald Tannur’s case.
Abdul Qohar, the Director of Investigation at the Attorney General’s Office, stated that Rudi’s suspect status came after an examination of the evidence following his earlier arrest in Palembang, South Sumatra. “Due to sufficient evidence of corruption, RS has been designated as a suspect,” said Abdul Qohar during a press conference on Tuesday (15/1/2025).
Qohar explained that Rudi’s role in this case involved appointing the panel of judges who would preside over Ronald Tannur’s case at the Surabaya District Court. This decision was made at the request of Lisa Rahmat, Ronald’s lawyer, who provided money to Rudi Suparmono.
“After some time, LR met with RS again and requested that the suspect ED (Erintuah Damanik) be appointed as the chief judge in Ronald Tannur’s case, with suspects HH and M serving as members of the panel,” he elaborated.
Following his official designation as a suspect, Rudi was immediately placed in custody for the next 20 days at the Salemba Detention Center Branch of the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office. Qohar also mentioned that Rudi Suparmono is charged with Article 12 letter c, Article 12 letter a, Article 12 letter b, Article 5 paragraph 2, Article 11, Article 18 of the Corruption Law, and Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.
