Field Trip Collaboration Between SMKN 1 Kota Sorong and SKK Migas-Pertamina EP Papua Supports Education Development
Sorong – In a bid to bolster the realm of education, SKK Migas and Pertamina EP Papua Field (PEP Papua), part of the Zona 14 Regional Indonesia Timur Subholding Upstream Pertamina, facilitated a field trip for students majoring in Oil Engineering to the HSSE Demo Room and Klamono on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
The field trip aimed to provide a hands-on insight into the upstream oil and natural gas industry along with its operations. Over 40 students from SMKN 1 Kota Sorong had the opportunity to compare their field trip experiences with the theories learned in school.
The visit began with a tour of the HSSE Demo Room PEP Papua in Kota Sorong. Students and accompanying teachers were taken around and provided explanations, including a diorama of Pertamina’s upstream and downstream business processes, Pertamina’s facilities and infrastructure, and aspects concerning health, safety, security, and the environment (HSSE). Additionally, participants were briefed on corporate life-saving rules (CLSR) and HSSE golden rules – compliance, intervention, and care.
Subsequently, the participants were taken to one of PEP Papua’s sites in Klamono, Sorong Regency. On this occasion, PEP Papua field workers accompanied them, explaining the general business processes, the operation of a sucker rod pump, and the collection station.
Olivia, an 11th-grade student from SMKN 1 Kota Sorong, expressed her delight in participating in the field trip to PEP Papua. “I am happy to witness firsthand the work processes and understand what happens in the field,” said Olivia.
Through this visit, she hopes to enrich her knowledge to prepare herself for the oil and gas company entrance exams after graduation. The field trip concluded with a group photo at the Main Collection Station in Klamono.
Manager PEP Papua, Ardi, advised the students of SMKN 1 Kota Sorong to seize this opportunity to ask as many questions as possible and stay motivated to learn and advance to higher levels.
“Make the most of this opportunity to gather as much information as possible about the oil and gas industry. It will undoubtedly equip you with the necessary tools to continue your education to the next level or into the workforce,” Ardi remarked.
PEP Papua is committed to implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives as a sustainable performance framework.
“PEP Papua not only supports the national energy resilience from the eastern end of Indonesia but also plays a role in empowering the local community. Creating a conducive environment, fostering innovation, and developing human resources are among our social priorities. This activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 9 Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and number 17 Partnerships for the Goals,” explained Ardi.
