Enhancing Indonesian Passport Quality with New Design: Ministry Initiative

Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Immigration and Corrections is taking a significant step to enhance the quality of Indonesian passports with a new design. Minister Agus Andrianto announced that the innovative changes would address the current global ranking of Indonesian passports, which currently stand at 66th in The Henley Passport Index 2025, with a visa-free score of 76.

Minister’s Vision for Passport Improvement

During the 75th Immigration Bhakti Day event at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex, Minister Agus Andrianto expressed his optimism about the potential improvements the new passport design would bring. He emphasized the importance of meeting international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to elevate the status of Indonesian passports on a global scale. The new passport design is scheduled to be launched on August 17, 2025, marking a new era for Indonesian travel documents.

Focus on International Trust and Security

Acting Director General of Immigration Saffar Muhammad Godam underscored the significance of enhancing international trust in Indonesia through the new passport design. With a focus on adhering to international standards and strengthening global confidence in Indonesian passports, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections is moving towards electronic passports. This transition is crucial for ensuring the authenticity and security of travel documents in an increasingly interconnected world.

Sophisticated Security Features and Cultural Representation

The new Indonesian passport will not only serve as a travel document but also as a symbol of Indonesian identity and culture. Director of immigration cooperation, Anggiat Napitupulu, highlighted the incorporation of 33 traditional batik motifs with advanced security features to enhance both aesthetics and protection. By combining cultural elements with cutting-edge technology, the new passport design aims to reflect Indonesia’s rich heritage while meeting international security standards.

As Indonesia continues to strengthen its presence on the global stage, the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections’ initiative to enhance passport quality signifies a commitment to innovation and security in the realm of international travel. The upcoming launch of the new passport design heralds a new chapter in Indonesia’s passport history, promising increased international trust and recognition for Indonesian travelers worldwide.
