Ministry’s Focus on Enhancing Connectivity and Digital Talent Development

In a recent statement, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, emphasized the ministry’s key priorities for the upcoming year. The focus is on enhancing connectivity and developing digital talent to meet the challenges posed by the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Improving Connectivity Across Indonesia

Patria highlighted the importance of improving the quality of connectivity to ensure that the benefits of the internet reach people in all corners of Indonesia. With internet penetration already at 80 percent of the total population, the ministry aims to enhance meaningful connectivity for all citizens.

He emphasized the need to address the existing disparity in digital infrastructure, which is currently concentrated in heavily populated areas like Java and parts of Sumatra. The ministry’s Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure will work towards achieving digital infrastructure equity, with a specific focus on regions like Kalimantan and Eastern Indonesia.

Developing Digital Talent for the Future

In addition to connectivity, the development of digital talent is a top priority for the ministry. Patria stressed the importance of nurturing 9 million digital talents by 2030 to meet the ambitious digital economy target of US$366 billion for the same year.

He acknowledged the challenges in achieving this goal, underscoring the need for collaboration among various stakeholders, including the government, industry players, and educational institutions. Patria emphasized that simply providing digital literacy is not enough; individuals must also acquire expertise in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, cloud computing, and blockchain.

Preparing for the Future

To address the growing demand for digital talent, the ministry has devised several initiatives, such as the Digital Talent Scholarship and Digital Literacy Academy. These programs aim to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the digital economy of the future.

As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, it is evident that connectivity and digital talent development are crucial pillars for sustainable growth and innovation. With a concerted effort from all stakeholders, Indonesia can position itself as a leader in the digital landscape, driving economic prosperity and societal advancement. Let us embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and work together to shape a brighter, more connected future for all.
