Boosting Trade Competitiveness: Bappenas and Ministry’s Strategic Initiatives

Jakarta – In a bid to enhance Indonesia’s trade competitiveness on both domestic and global fronts, the National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas) has joined forces with the Trade Ministry. This strategic collaboration aims to tackle global challenges and elevate Indonesia’s standing in the global value chain.

National Development Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating that it is crucial for Indonesia to be able to compete effectively in global trade and drive economic growth. The synergy between Bappenas and the Trade Ministry is seen as a linchpin in ensuring Indonesia’s competitiveness in the international trade arena.

Focus on Export Competitiveness

The 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) outlines a clear trade policy direction aimed at enhancing Indonesia’s export market control globally. The target is to increase the country’s export share from 1.2 percent in 2022 to 2.4 percent by 2045. This ambitious goal underscores the commitment of both ministries to bolster Indonesia’s presence in the global trade landscape.

Strategic Steps for Growth

To achieve this goal, strategic steps have been identified, including strengthening participation in the global supply chain, boosting the share of high-value-added exports, and enhancing economic linkages between growth centers. These initiatives are crucial for overcoming external challenges such as global economic slowdown, geopolitical instability, and the need to adhere to green product standards.

Solutions for Challenges

Addressing internal challenges such as low competitiveness of export products, inadequate infrastructure, and trade imbalances between regions, Bappenas is actively working on solutions. The development of a Trade Data Dashboard is underway to help stakeholders identify regional export potential. Additionally, promoting free trade area (FTA) and comprehensive economic partnership agreements (CEPA) is part of the strategy to boost exports.

In a statement, Minister Pambudy reiterated the commitment of Bappenas and the Trade Ministry to sustain their cooperation in fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth to realize the national development vision.

The collaboration between these ministries marks a crucial milestone in Indonesia’s journey towards enhancing its trade competitiveness and securing a stronger foothold in the global market. By strategically aligning their efforts and resources, Indonesia is poised to navigate the complex terrain of global trade dynamics with resilience and innovation.
