Indonesian Equestrian Sports Association Ready to Host FEI and AEF Equestrian Contests
Indonesia is gearing up to host international equestrian championships sanctioned by the Federation Equestrian International (FEI) and the Asian Equestrian Federation (AEF), according to the Indonesian Equestrian Sports Association (PP Pordasi). As part of their preparation, PP Pordasi, in collaboration with the Agriculture Ministry, has launched the equine disease-free zone (EDFZ) program to streamline the process for hosting Asian and world-level competitions in Indonesia.
During a recent press conference in Jakarta, PP Pordasi chair Aryo Djojohadikusumo shared, “I also convey a message and also a mandate from the President of Indonesia, that if given the opportunity, Indonesia is ready to host FEI or AEF in the future.” This statement underscores the country’s commitment to showcasing its equestrian capabilities on the global stage.
The EDFZ program was last implemented when Indonesia hosted the 2018 Asian Games, highlighting the country’s potential as a venue for prestigious equestrian events. However, the lack of continued implementation post-2018 has hindered the transfer of knowledge crucial for athletes and horses to excel in international competitions.
Strategic Steps Towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
In a strategic move to secure a spot at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, PP Pordasi is actively pursuing the reimplementation of the EDFZ program. Djojohadikusumo emphasized the importance of engaging provincial administrators in event planning and coordination, focusing on various disciplines such as racing, equine sports, horseback archery, and polo.
To bolster their strategic initiatives, Djojohadikusumo revealed plans for monthly national class racing events and a series of CSI, FDI, and one-star competitions throughout the year. Additionally, there is a hopeful prospect of introducing two-star competitions for the first time in Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s equestrian development.
CSI and One-Star Competitions: Gateway to International Recognition
Concours de Saut International (CSI) serves as a pivotal ranking system for show jumping equestrian competitions, acting as a stepping stone for riders to gain international recognition. Similarly, one-star competitions play a vital role in preparing athletes and horses for the rigors of competing at the global level.
As Indonesia positions itself as a potential host for FEI and AEF events, the concerted efforts of PP Pordasi and the Agriculture Ministry underscore the nation’s commitment to fostering equestrian excellence. By reviving the EDFZ program and expanding the scope of equestrian competitions, Indonesia is poised to make a mark in the international equestrian arena.
In conclusion, Indonesia’s proactive stance towards hosting FEI and AEF equestrian contests reflects a broader vision of advancing the country’s equestrian sports industry and promoting sporting tourism. With strategic planning and collaborative efforts, Indonesia is poised to emerge as a prominent destination for equestrian enthusiasts worldwide.
