**Heavy Wet Hydrometeorological Disasters Strike Indonesia: 2 Dead, 7,000 Affected**

In a recent report by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), a total of 11 incidents of wet hydrometeorological disasters have struck Indonesia in the past month of January 2025. These calamities were triggered by prolonged heavy rainfall across various regions, leading to significant impacts on communities. Despite the challenges, local disaster management agencies have been swift in responding to the crises.

According to Abdul Muhari, the Head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center of BNPB, continuous efforts are being made to raise awareness among the public regarding potential disasters that may occur at any moment. The distribution of aid, healthcare services, and emergency response measures are ongoing to ensure that the basic needs of affected communities are promptly met. Muhari’s statement underscores the urgency and commitment of authorities in addressing the aftermath of these disasters.

The BNPB’s records reveal that these 11 new incidents have affected eight districts and cities across the country significantly. A total of 2,760 households or 5,723 individuals have been impacted, with two reported fatalities as a result of these disasters. The severity of the situation necessitates a coordinated and efficient response to alleviate the suffering of those affected.

### **Floods in Gunung Mas District, Central Kalimantan**
One of the affected regions is the Gunung Mas District in Central Kalimantan, where heavy rainfall since Sunday, January 19, 2025, has caused widespread flooding. Four villages in three sub-districts, including Tempelas Village in Sepang Sub-district, Tusang Raya and Tumbang Langgah Villages in Rungan Barat Sub-district, and Tumbang Malahoi Village in Rungan Sub-district, have been inundated. Approximately 200 homes and at least 613 individuals have been affected by the floods. While the waters have receded by Saturday, January 25, the local disaster management agency remains vigilant, monitoring areas at risk of secondary flooding.

### **Floods in Gorontalo City**
Another area grappling with the impact of heavy rainfall is Gorontalo City, where flooding occurred on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The inundation, caused by intense precipitation, affected residents in Lekobalo and Dembe I districts of the West City Sub-district. Around 128 households or 426 individuals were displaced by the floods. The City’s disaster management agency swiftly evacuated 32 affected households, ensuring their safety and readiness for further monitoring and assistance.

As these hydrometeorological disasters continue to threaten communities across Indonesia, the importance of preparedness, swift responses, and collaborative efforts cannot be overstated. The resilience and solidarity of the affected populations, combined with the dedication of local authorities and disaster management agencies, will play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of these natural calamities.
