Toshiba Introduces New Cortex-M4 Microcontrollers for Motor Control

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has recently unveiled seven new 32-bit microcontrollers equipped with the Cortex-M4 core, expanding its range of motor control microcontrollers. These microcontrollers are designed to support the main control and motor control of both consumer and industrial equipment. The M4K group and M470 group are two new additions to Toshiba’s lineup, each offering unique features and capabilities.

Enhanced Functionality and Performance

The M4K group microcontrollers boast a maximum operating frequency of 120MHz, while the M470 group can operate at up to 160MHz. Both groups are equipped with two motor control functions, encoder interfaces, and programmable motor control functions. These features help reduce CPU loads during motor control operations and ensure efficient performance. Additionally, the microcontrollers include a checking mechanism for flash memory, RAM, AD converter, and clock, enabling self-diagnosis functions for enhanced reliability.

The M470 group products now offer a maximum flash memory capacity of 1MB, a significant improvement over the previous 512KB capacity. This enhancement allows for better device functionality and supports the increasing demand for IoT applications. The incorporation of a Firmware update Over The Air (FOTA) function further contributes to providing comprehensive support for IoT devices.

Applications and Specifications

These microcontrollers find applications in a wide range of consumer and industrial equipment, including air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, inverters, robots, and more. With features like the high-performance Cortex-M4 core, two-system motor control functions, and self-diagnosis capabilities, these microcontrollers offer versatile solutions for various applications.

The main specifications of the M4K group and M470 group microcontrollers include details about the CPU core, maximum operating frequency, memory capacity, I/O ports, communication functions, analog functions, and more. These specifications highlight the advanced capabilities and versatility of the microcontrollers, making them suitable for a broad range of applications.

As Toshiba continues to innovate and expand its portfolio of microcontrollers, these new additions demonstrate the company’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for the consumer and industrial electronics markets. With a focus on performance, reliability, and functionality, Toshiba’s microcontrollers are poised to drive innovation and efficiency in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
