Forecast: Bali Aims for 6.5 Million Foreign Tourists by 2025
Denpasar, Bali – The provincial government of Bali has set an ambitious goal of attracting 6.5 million foreign tourists to the province this year, as announced by Tjok Bagus Pemayun, Head of the Tourism Office of Bali, in Denpasar on Tuesday. This target aligns with the broader strategy to position Bali as a premier travel destination in the region.
Challenges and Targets
Pemayun highlighted that the target for domestic tourist visits is even higher, reaching up to 10.5 million. This goal may seem ambitious, but it is grounded in the province’s recent tourism performance. In 2024, Bali welcomed approximately 6.3 million foreign tourists, setting a solid foundation for the projected growth in 2025.
However, it is essential to note that the actual number of visitors to Bali may surpass these figures when considering tourists arriving from other Indonesian regions through various entry points like Gilimanuk Port or domestic flights. In 2024, the Bali Tourism Office estimated a total of seven million visitors, accounting for both direct flights and other modes of transportation.
Addressing Key Issues
Looking ahead to 2025, Pemayun acknowledged the existing challenges that could impact foreign tourist arrivals. Congestion, waste management, and land use conversion emerged as critical issues that require immediate attention. To tackle these challenges effectively, the provincial government plans to implement robust law enforcement measures while also playing a crucial role as a regulator and facilitator in the tourism sector.
