Embrace the Sea: PIS and Seasoldier Collaborate for Marine Literacy and Mangrove Planting in Tanjung Benoa

In a heartwarming show of commitment to environmental and social responsibility, PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has joined forces with Seasoldier to continue their Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan (TJSL) program in Tanjung Benoa, Bali. This initiative focuses on marine literacy and mangrove planting, aiming to educate young children and the general public about ocean conservation and foster a love for the environment.

Empowering Communities Through Marine Literacy

The collaboration kicked off with marine literacy activities at SD No.1 Tanjung Benoa, including the provision of marine-themed books and library resources. This educational effort is crucial, given that 70% of Indonesia’s territory is made up of the ocean. Vega Pita, the Manager of Stakeholder Management at PIS, emphasized the importance of boosting marine literacy among the public to ensure the sustainability of our marine ecosystems. PIS, operating predominantly at sea, is dedicated to supporting marine conservation efforts through education and mangrove planting, with a ripple effect that extends not only to local communities in Indonesia but also globally.

Planting Seeds of Sustainability: Mangrove Planting Initiatives

The second phase of the program focused on mangrove planting at Tahura Ngurah Rai. This activity not only contributes to the preservation of marine ecosystems but also plays a vital role in mitigating climate change by sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The collaboration between PIS, Seasoldier, and local stakeholders has been met with enthusiasm and support, further underscoring the importance of community involvement in environmental initiatives.

Making a Difference Through Collaboration

As the “berSEAnergi untuk laut” program unfolds, it continues to impact communities positively. Through partnerships with 20 schools, renovation of 5 libraries, distribution of 800 marine-themed books, and the planting of 6,523 mangrove seedlings, the program has already touched the lives of 2,800 students from elementary to junior high school levels. This collaborative effort aligns with Pertamina’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on education and marine ecosystem preservation.

In a world where our oceans face unprecedented challenges, initiatives like the TJSL PIS program serve as beacons of hope, reminding us that by working together, we can create a more sustainable future for generations to come. Let’s all take inspiration from this partnership and do our part in protecting our precious marine ecosystems. After all, as the saying goes, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
