Enhancing Food and Energy Cooperation between Indonesian House and Singapore

In a bid to strengthen ties and foster collaboration between Indonesia and Singapore, Indonesian House of Representatives’ (DPR RI’s) Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad engaged in crucial discussions with Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia Kwok Fook Seng at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation in the realms of food security and renewable energy, paving the way for enhanced bilateral relations between the two nations.

Exploring Key Areas of Cooperation

During the discussions, Deputy Speaker Ahmad highlighted the importance of renewable energy, food security, and cooperation across various sectors as key areas of focus for the partnership. He underscored the significance of coordination regarding the future of new and renewable energy (NRE), emphasizing that the talks would be carried out at the government-to-government level.

Ahmad revealed that Singapore had previously engaged in discussions with several Indonesian ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Economy Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, to explore potential cooperation opportunities. While no formal agreement was reached during the recent meeting, both parties expressed their commitment to furthering cooperation and coordination in the field of NRE.

Focus on Future Collaboration

Despite the productive discussions, Deputy Speaker Ahmad clarified that there were no deliberations regarding the free nutritious meal program (MBG) during the meeting with Ambassador Seng. The primary focus remained on fostering collaboration in the energy and food sectors to address shared challenges and drive sustainable development in both countries.

Ambassador Seng, in turn, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception during his visit to the parliament and reiterated the importance of communicating developments in cooperation, particularly in the field of NRE, between Indonesia and Singapore. He emphasized the role of the parliament in supporting government initiatives aimed at regulating economic cooperation and fostering mutual growth and prosperity.

Building Bridges for a Sustainable Future

The presence of key figures such as Deputy Chairman of Commission XII of DPR RI Bambang Haryadi and Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of DPR RI Mohamad Hekal underscored the significance of the discussions in enhancing bilateral ties and exploring avenues for future collaboration. With the support of both governments, Indonesia and Singapore are poised to strengthen their partnership and work towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for their citizens.

As we navigate the complexities of international relations and seek to build bridges across borders, it is essential to foster meaningful dialogue and cooperation that transcends geographical boundaries. By prioritizing key areas of collaboration such as renewable energy and food security, Indonesia and Singapore are laying the foundation for a robust partnership that promises mutual benefits and shared prosperity for years to come. Let us embrace the spirit of cooperation and unity as we embark on this journey towards a more sustainable and interconnected world.
