Communication Forum on Sustainable Tourism Development Held by Kemenparekraf

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/ Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) organized a Communication Forum of Minister’s Expert Staff (SAM) addressing the issue of Sustainable Tourism Development (STDev) on July 10, 2024. This event took place in Batulayang Village, Cisarua, Bogor, on July 4, 2024, with the aim of aligning perceptions and generating strategic recommendations related to sustainable tourism.

Collaborative Efforts and Objectives

The forum saw collaboration between the Minister’s Expert Staff of Kemenparekraf and the Expert Staff of other Ministries/Agencies (K/L). The primary goal was to discuss and agree on strategic steps to develop sustainable tourism.

The Three Pillars of Sustainable Tourism

Fadjar Hutomo, the Minister’s Expert Staff in Crisis Management at Kemenparekraf, explained that sustainable tourism has three main pillars. The first pillar is sustainable management, emphasizing responsible resource management of natural and local cultural assets to ensure tourism can develop without harming the environment.

Importance of Sustainable Management

Sustainable management highlights the responsible management of natural and cultural resources, ensuring tourism can continue to grow without damaging the environment.

In a personal anecdote, imagine waking up to the sound of waves crashing against the shore, the scent of fresh sea air filling your lungs, and the sight of a pristine beach just steps away. This idyllic scene is what sustainable tourism aims to preserve for future generations. By managing resources responsibly and respecting local cultures, we can ensure that our favorite destinations remain unspoiled for years to come.

The second pillar is human and cultural development, emphasizing the integration of tourism with local wisdom for mutual growth.

Concluding Thoughts

The forum served as a platform for discussion and opinion exchange to promote sustainable tourism. Key topics included the development planning in tourist villages, collaborative crisis management, and the role of local stakeholders in achieving sustainable tourism goals. Through collaboration and shared responsibility, we can protect our natural wonders and cultural heritage while fostering economic growth in a sustainable manner. Let’s all be mindful travelers and advocates for a better, greener future for tourism worldwide.
