Indonesia’s BNN Honored by US DEA for Anti-Drug Efforts

Jakarta – In a momentous event held in Jakarta on Wednesday, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recognized Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) for its exceptional dedication to combating international drug networks. The award ceremony, attended by key officials and representatives, highlighted the crucial role Indonesia plays in the global fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

International Recognition for Anti-Drug Commitment

During the ceremony, BNN Head Police Commissioner Gen. Marthinus Hukom expressed gratitude for the prestigious award, emphasizing the significance of international acknowledgment of Indonesia’s relentless efforts to tackle drug-related crimes. Hukom credited the success of BNN to the unwavering support from various entities, including the DEA, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Indonesia’s Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), and the Indonesian public.

Call to Reconsider DEA Office Closure

Amidst the celebration, Hukom raised concerns about the US government’s plan to close the DEA Office in Indonesia, urging the US Embassy to reconsider this decision. Highlighting the pivotal role the agency plays in assisting Indonesia in combating drug-related challenges, Hukom emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries to address narcotics abuse effectively.

Enhanced Measures Against Drug Abuse

The award, presented by DEA officials Mark Snyder and Bryan Barger, signifies a strong partnership between the US and Indonesia in the fight against drug abuse. US Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing narcotics issues, praising the joint efforts that have led to significant advancements in narcotics control at national and global levels.
