World Rally Championship (WRC) to Debut in North Sumatra Next Year
In an exciting development for motorsport enthusiasts, the World Rally Championship (WRC) is set to make its debut in North Sumatra next year. The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, recently met with the Chairman of the Central Indonesian Motorsports Institute (IMI), Bambang Soesatyo, and the WRC Promoter team to discuss the upcoming event in Indonesia.
Long-Awaited Collaboration
During the meeting, Minister Dito revealed that the WRC team had expressed interest in hosting the championship in Indonesia for quite some time. After constructive discussions, both parties came together to finalize the terms of agreement for the prestigious event.
“WRC has been in the works since 2024. They have shown keen interest, and after fruitful deliberations, they have come here to enhance our collaboration for the official exploration,” stated Minister Dito at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.
The collaboration between LPDUK, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Inaspro, and WRC aims to solidify the final agreement and pave the way for the official exploration of WRC in Indonesia.
Promoting Indonesian Tourism
The WRC is scheduled to take place in North Sumatra next year, with Minister Dito emphasizing that the event will not only showcase Indonesia on a global platform but also promote tourism in the region. The championship will be held in the vicinity of Lake Toba, a popular tourist destination in the area.
“WRC is the second-largest motorsport event globally, following Formula 1. This presents a fantastic opportunity to promote Indonesia internationally and advance motorsport in the country,” expressed the Golkar politician.
Furthermore, the event’s impact on tourism in the Medan to Lake Toba region is expected to be substantial. Similar motorsport events like F1 Powerboat and Aquabike have already seen a significant boost in investments in hotels, culinary establishments, and an influx of international tourists.
In conclusion, the World Rally Championship’s arrival in North Sumatra next year signifies a major milestone for motorsport enthusiasts and a promising opportunity to showcase Indonesia’s beauty and potential on the global stage.
