Sustainable Food Security Program Launched in Cilegon by Pertamina Energi Terminal
Cilegon – Integrating renewable energy technology with food security, PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) through its subsidiary, PT Pertamina Energy Terminal (PET) at the Tanjung Sekong LPG Terminal, has launched the transformative Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) program in RW 06 Kelurahan Lebak Gede, Kecamatan Pulomerak, Kota Cilegon, on Friday (8/11).
The program, supported by the Directorate General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, combines solar technology innovation with modern agriculture to create a model for sustainable community empowerment.
The flagship initiative of this program is the installation of a 4.4 KWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a 5 kWh battery capacity, powering the operations of the Hydroponic House. This facility, collaboratively managed by the Brave Innovation Youth of RW 06 along with the Wahid Sapa Women Farmers Group (KWT), has successfully produced 40-50 kg of hydroponic vegetables per harvest.
Strategic Role of the Program
Vega Pita, Manager of Corporate Communication and Relations at Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), emphasized the strategic role of this program in strengthening national food security. “This program is a tangible manifestation of PIS’s commitment to supporting food security, especially in coastal areas. Through the PIS BerSEAnergi for the Sea CSR program, we not only focus on economic empowerment but also ensure the sustainability of food resources with environmentally friendly technology,” he explained.
Dr. H. Damanhuri, M.Si, Head of the Social Department of Cilegon City, appreciated this initiative. “This program serves as a catalyst for driving the economy and creativity of the community in building food awareness. We hope that this model can be replicated in other locations to create economic equality,” he said.
Global Development Goals Alignment
Dian Hapsari Firasati, CSR Manager at PT Pertamina (Persero), emphasized the alignment of the program with global development goals. “This program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in ending hunger, providing clean and affordable energy, and addressing climate change. We hope this can become a model for sustainable food self-sufficiency,” she stated.
