Surabaya Businessman Ivan Sugiamto to Face Trial for Coercing High School Student to Bow Down and Bark
Surabaya, Jawa Timur – A shocking case has emerged in Surabaya, Jawa Timur, involving local businessman Ivan Sugiamto, who is set to stand trial for bullying a high school student from Gloria 2 Surabaya High School, known only as ET.
The incident gained widespread attention after a video surfaced showing Sugiamto forcing the victim, ET, to bow down and bark like a dog, sparking outrage among netizens.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following the viral video on social media, Sugiamto was apprehended by police at Juanda Airport in Surabaya on Thursday, November 14, 2024. He was subsequently taken into custody, and the case is now slated for trial.
The police have compiled a case file outlining the alleged bullying incident suffered by the student from Gloria 2 School. The Surabaya City Police have transferred the case file to the Surabaya District Attorney’s Office. With all necessary documents in place, Sugiamto is set to face trial as the primary suspect.
Origin of the Bullying Incident
The bullying allegations against Sugiamto stem from his purported mistreatment of a student from Gloria 2 Surabaya High School identified as E. It is claimed that Sugiamto coerced E into apologizing by making them bow down and bark like a dog.
Transfer to the District Attorney’s Office
Rina Shanty, the Public Relations Officer of the Surabaya City Police, confirmed that Sugiamto, the main suspect in the case, has been designated with a P21 status. On Monday, January 13, 2025, at approximately 10:00 AM local time, Sugiamto was handed over to the Surabaya District Attorney’s Office. As a result, he is no longer being held at the Surabaya City Police station.
“Ivan Sugiamto, who we detained for bullying a student at Gloria 2 Surabaya High School, has been transferred to the Surabaya District Attorney’s Office. The case file is now complete and ready for trial,” stated Rina.
