Indramayu Social Barn: A Lifeline in Times of Crisis
Indramayu, West Java – Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf’s recent initiative to establish a social barn in the Indramayu district of West Java is a crucial step towards enhancing disaster relief efforts in the region. The social barn serves as a vital storage facility stocked with essential supplies like children’s clothing, ready-to-eat food, rice, blankets, and other necessary logistics to aid the community during emergencies.
The facility’s primary objective is to provide immediate assistance following a disaster, with additional support being channeled through social centers located in close proximity. Minister Yusuf emphasized the significance of these social barns, revealing that Indonesia currently boasts 731 such facilities strategically positioned across the nation to bolster disaster response capabilities.
Empowering Local Communities
During his visit to Indramayu, Minister Yusuf engaged in a dialogue with 399 social pillars, including key stakeholders such as Family Hope Program (PKH) assistants, sub-district social welfare workers (TKSK), disaster preparedness cadets, Peace Pioneers (Pordam), and social rehabilitation assistants. He underscored the importance of aligning objectives and activities between the central government and grassroots social pillars to ensure that programs yield tangible benefits for the community.
“We want all our endeavors to be quantifiable. Our aim is to implement initiatives that deliver tangible results and make a real difference in people’s lives,” Minister Yusuf emphasized. He also expressed optimism that the programs rolled out in Indramayu would contribute to poverty alleviation efforts in line with the government’s overarching objectives.
Building Resilient Communities
In addition to the social barn, Minister Yusuf inspected the ongoing construction of houses and facilities at a fishermen’s village earmarked for completion by the month’s end. This relocation initiative aims to assist residents affected by tidal flooding, covering an extensive area of 1.6 hectares comprising housing units spanning 9,900 square meters and public/economic facilities spanning 6,100 square meters.
