Government Priority: Certification of Teachers by the Religion Ministry
Jakarta – The Ministry of Religious Affairs has made it clear that the certification of teachers through the Teachers’ Professional Training (PPG) program is a top priority for the government. The ministry aims to complete this certification within the next one to two years, as stated by Sahiron, the Director of Islamic Higher Education, at a recent event in Yogyakarta.
Current Status of Teacher Certification
As of now, there are 625,481 teachers under the Ministry of Religious Affairs who have not yet participated in the PPG program. This includes a significant number of madrasah teachers, totaling 484,678. Additionally, there are 95,367 Islamic religious education teachers, 29,002 Christian religious education teachers, 11,157 Catholic religious education teachers, 4,412 Hindu religious education teachers, 689 Buddhist religious education teachers, and 179 Confucian religious education teachers who are yet to be certified.
Targets for the PPG Program
For the current year, the Ministry of Religious Affairs aims to target 269,168 teachers through the PPG program. Looking ahead to 2026, the target will increase to 356,313 teachers. Sahiron has expressed his dedication to ensuring the success of this program for all teachers under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, highlighting the benefits it will bring in terms of welfare and knowledge transfer to students.
Building a Golden Nation
Sahiron emphasized that the professional certification of teachers will not only enhance their well-being but also contribute to the nation’s goal of becoming a golden nation by 2045. He outlined two key indicators for a Golden Indonesia – advancements in science and technology, and a nation with mature religious spirituality characterized by communal tolerance and harmony.
In line with this vision, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has shown strong commitment to fostering religious maturity and harmony among various religious communities in the nation.
The certification of teachers is not just a bureaucratic process but a crucial step towards achieving a brighter future for Indonesia. By ensuring that teachers receive the necessary training and recognition, the government is investing in the education system and the overall development of the country. Let us support these efforts to uplift our teachers and empower them to shape the minds of future generations. Together, we can work towards a more knowledgeable, tolerant, and harmonious society for all Indonesians.
