Increasing Number of Police Officers Involved in Extorting DWP Revealed
In a shocking revelation, Commissioner of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) M Choirul Anam has disclosed that the number of police officers involved in extorting attendees of the Djakarta Warehouse Project (DWP) 2024 is expected to significantly increase.
Anam made this statement to reporters at the Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Friday (10/1/2025), stating that the possibility of additional officers becoming embroiled in the extortion case is high. Not only is the number of involved officers expected to rise, but the amount of money extorted is also projected to escalate.
Varied Extortion Amounts Based on Circumstances
Anam emphasized that the money demanded from DWP attendees to evade drug testing scrutiny cannot be generalized. Each officer sets their own figure depending on the individual, their associations, and the nature of their communication. The extortion amounts vary greatly from one perpetrator to another.
Despite the diverse extortion scenarios, a total sum of Rp 2.5 billion has surfaced from these illicit activities. Anam noted that this amount could increase pending further developments in the case, as investigations are currently ongoing.
Ethical Code Trials and Disciplinary Actions
Anam mentioned that ethical code trials for 18 officers are being conducted simultaneously at the Indonesian National Police Headquarters (Divpropam Polri) and the Jakarta Metro Police Ethics Committee (Bid Propam Polda Metro Jaya).
Among the implicated officers, three have already been dismissed from the force, while the remaining individuals have been demoted for a period ranging from 5 to 8 years. Here is a list of 14 police officers who have undergone ethical code trials:
1. Former Director of Narcotics (Dirresnarkoba) of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Donald Parlaungan Simanjuntak, was dishonorably discharged for allowing subordinates to extort victims.
2. Former Sub-Director III of Narcotics (Kasubdit III Ditresnarkoba) of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Malvino Edward Yusticia, was dismissed for apprehending and extorting DWP attendees.
3. Former Chief of Unit 1 Section 3 of Sub-Directorate 3 of Narcotics (Panit 1 Unit 3 Subdit 3 Ditresnarkoba) of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Yudhy Triananta Syaeful, was terminated for apprehending and extorting DWP attendees.
4. Former Head of Unit 5 Section 2 of Sub-Directorate 2 of Narcotics (Kanit 5 Subdit 2 Ditresnarkoba) of Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Dzul Fadlan, was demoted for 8 years after being found guilty of extortion.
This disheartening chain of events sheds light on the prevalence of corruption within law enforcement agencies and underscores the importance of maintaining integrity and ethical standards in the pursuit of justice.
