Young Man Sets Motorcycle Ablaze After Getting Fined, Turns Out Vehicle Was Purchased at a Junkyard

A young man from Palembang, North Sumatra, named Trison, made a rash decision to set his own motorcycle on fire when he was about to be fined by the police in Pasaman Barat, West Sumatra, on Thursday (1/9/2025). The incident took place in front of the Grand Mosque of Pasaman Barat, as Trison passed by without wearing a helmet and lacking the necessary vehicle documents.

Emotional Reaction Leads to Drastic Action

According to Rina Aryanti, the Head of Traffic at the Pasaman Barat Police, Trison was stopped by officers for not wearing a helmet and not having any vehicle documents. Trison, who was heading from Simpang Empat Bundaran towards the Regent’s Office, panicked when the officers were about to issue a traffic ticket.

“Pelaku didn’t have the necessary documents, which led to him burning his own vehicle out of panic,” she said at Simpang Empat on Thursday evening. The Suzuki Satria FU motorcycle used by Trison was also declared unfit for the road, lacking a motor vehicle registration number (TNKB), lights, and using a modified exhaust.

Aftermath and Apology

Following the incident, Trison was apprehended and taken to the Traffic Police Office for questioning. “From our investigation, the perpetrator set his vehicle on fire out of emotion when our officers were about to issue a ticket because the vehicle didn’t have the required documents, as he bought it from a junkyard,” she continued.

Trison, who was heading to Sibolga, North Sumatra, was eventually assisted by the Pasaman Barat Traffic Police to return to his village in Sibolga. “We facilitated by taking him to Panti, Pasaman Regency, and coordinated with the Panti Police Station to help find a vehicle because there are limited options for transportation from Pasaman Barat to Sibolga, so we found an alternative from Pasaman Regency,” explained Rina.

Trison admitted his mistake and apologized to the police and the public for causing a commotion. “I apologize to the police for burning my vehicle. I panicked because I didn’t have the necessary documents,” he expressed. He also extended his apology to the community for the disturbance and the viral video of the incident. “I apologize to the public because the video has gone viral, this is my mistake, not the police’s fault,” he concluded.
