**Woman in Yogyakarta Crushed by Fallen Tree While Sweeping in Front of Her Warung**

YOGYA – A tragic incident unfolded in Yogyakarta as Endang Kurniawati, a woman selling angkringan, lost her life after being crushed by a fallen tree in front of Pojok Cendana Warung on Cendana Street on Tuesday (21/1/2025) evening. The tree collapsed following heavy rainfall in the area.

According to AKP Sujarwosaat, the Public Relations Officer of the Yogyakarta Regional Police, the incident occurred at approximately 5:45 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2024, in front of Pojok Cendana Warung on Cendana Street 1.

Eyewitnesses reported that Endang was sweeping in front of the warung after the rain had subsided when the tree suddenly fell and struck her, resulting in fatal injuries.

### **Community Efforts and Emergency Response**

Passersby rushed to Endang’s aid, attempting to move the tree off her body. The PSC 119 team, upon receiving the report, promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

“After reaching the location, the PSC 119 team examined the victim and tragically confirmed her passing,” stated Sujarwosaat.

Witnesses revealed that Endang, a 53-year-old angkringan vendor, operated her business beneath the very tree that ultimately caused her demise. The tree, identified as a waru tree that had been cut down long ago but left with some branches, proved to be fragile and hazardous.

Following an examination by PSC 119 and identification by Inafis, Endang’s remains were transported to RS Wirosaban for further procedures.

### **Previous Incidents and Safety Measures**

This devastating event in Yogyakarta is reminiscent of a similar tragedy in Bali’s Monkey Forest Ubud, where two individuals lost their lives due to a fallen tree, while another victim sustained severe injuries.

As communities reflect on these incidents, it is crucial to prioritize safety measures and inspect trees regularly to prevent such heartbreaking accidents from occurring in the future.

By staying vigilant and taking proactive steps, we can ensure the well-being of everyone in our surroundings and avoid further tragedies like the one that befell Endang Kurniawati in Yogyakarta.

This heartbreaking loss serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety in our daily lives and the unpredictability of nature’s forces. Let us honor Endang’s memory by striving for a safer environment for all.
