Strategies for Combating Terrorism Discussed by Defense Minister and BNPT Head
In a crucial meeting held at the Defense Minister’s office in Jakarta, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Eddy Hartono engaged in discussions on vital strategies to enhance Indonesia’s resilience against terrorism. The meeting, which took place on Wednesday, January 8, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to combat radical ideologies effectively.
The Essence of Collaboration and Cohesiveness
During the meeting, Minister Sjamsoeddin underscored the necessity of fostering synergy and cohesiveness among BNPT officials and promoting collaboration between the agency and other institutions. He highlighted the complexity of the challenges faced in combating terrorism and stressed the significance of an integrated and comprehensive approach involving all relevant stakeholders.
Acknowledging the critical role of collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and BNPT, Minister Sjamsoeddin emphasized that such cooperation is essential for Indonesia to effectively address the spread of radical and terror beliefs within the country. He encouraged the anti-terror agency to continuously improve its strategies and expand its global network to engage with other countries in devising counter-terrorism measures.
Promoting Peace and National Values
Minister Sjamsoeddin commended the BNPT for its initiatives, including the Peace Ambassador program aimed at involving youngsters in countering radical ideologies. He also praised the agency for instilling Indonesia’s national ideology, Pancasila, in schoolchildren to promote noble values and combat extremism.
In response, Head of BNPT Eddy Hartono highlighted the agency’s ongoing programs, such as a training activity for civil servant candidates at the University of Defense in Bogor District. This program aims to educate participants on modern counter-terrorism strategies and enhance their understanding of Pancasila, Indonesia’s foundational principles.
