Bus Accident in Batu: Principal of SMK TI Bali Explains Incident Involving Student Group on Industrial Visit

A tourist bus carrying a group of students from SMK TI Bali Global Badung met with an accident in Kota Batu, Malang, East Java, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The incident occurred on Imam Bonjol Street, precisely in front of Batu Town Square, when the bus reportedly experienced brake failure and collided with several riders.

The bus involved in the accident was transporting 150 students and 12 teachers who were on an industrial visit to Yogyakarta, Semarang, and Malang.

Principal’s Explanation

According to the Head of SMK TI Bali Global Badung, I Made Indra Aribawa, the group was supposed to return to Bali on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 12:00 pm. He mentioned that the visit included a trip to Malang, specifically to Kampung Animasi. There were a total of 150 students and 12 teachers on 4 buses. As of now, he has not coordinated with the teachers and students there.

Indra added that the route to Batu Malang was the final one before heading back to Bali. He plans to coordinate promptly regarding the return of the students and teachers, as well as arranging for a replacement bus so the group can safely reach their destination.

Victims and Handling of the Situation

The Head of Gakkum Traffic Unit at Batu Police, Ipda Hendri Setiawan, confirmed that the accident resulted in three fatalities. He stated that they were currently en route to the scene to determine the cause.

After the incident, medical teams and police officers promptly attended to the victims. Information regarding the number of casualties and their conditions will be continuously updated by the authorities.
