The Indonesian Badminton Team once again had to bury their dreams of winning the Sudirman Cup this year. Jonatan Christie and his team were stopped in the semifinals after being defeated by South Korea with a score of 3-2 at the Xiamen Fenghuang Gymnasium in China on Saturday (3/5/2025).
In the first match, Indonesia’s mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti were defeated by Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung from Korea with a score of 10-21, 15-21. The second match saw Indonesia’s men’s singles player, Alwi Farhan, successfully equalize the score to 1-1 after defeating Cho Geonyeop 16-21, 21-8, 21-8.
However, in the women’s singles sector, Putri Kusuma Wardani couldn’t outperform the world’s number one ranked player, An Se Young, and had to surrender in straight games, 18-21 and 12-21. The fourth match, Indonesia’s men’s doubles pair, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana, put up an impressive performance and leveled the score to 2-2 after defeating Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae in a rubber game of 21-18, 13-21, and 25-23.
The 2-2 result meant that the match had to be decided in the final game. Unfortunately, Indonesia’s women’s doubles pair, Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, couldn’t secure a victory against Baek Ha Na/Lee So Hee, with a score of 10-21, 21-18, 15-21. Following the match, Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi apologized for not being able to contribute to the winning points in the deciding game.
On the other hand, she also praised her partner, Fadia, for giving her all despite playing in the mixed doubles match earlier. “For today’s match, I want to say a big thank you to Fadia because she played in the first match in mixed doubles and then had to play in women’s doubles. It wasn’t easy, of course,” said Tiwi. “We apologize for not being able to contribute points, but we fought hard on the court,” she added. Concerning the game, Tiwi mentioned that she and Fadia were too caught up in the Korean pair’s game plan in the first game, and in the deciding game, the physical and mental factors were truly felt.
“In the first game, we were too caught up in the opponent’s slow game. They were very consistent and their defense was hard to break,” Tiwi said. There were a lot of emotions running high during the game, with both teams giving their all to secure a spot in the finals. Despite the loss, the Indonesian team showed great sportsmanship and determination throughout the tournament. It was a tough battle, but they can hold their heads high knowing they gave it their all.
