Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Keeps Rocking in the Upstream Sector
In Jakarta, on May 2, 2025 – PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) as Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding continues to show off its positive performance at the beginning of this year. In the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, PHE recorded oil and gas production of 1.043 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (MBOEPD). The oil and gas production figure for Q1 2025 has increased compared to Q1 2024 by 1.042 MBOEPD, which is quite an improvement, if you ask me.
Until March 2025, PHE has also managed to complete the drilling of 5 exploration wells, 206 development wells, 248 workover wells, and 9,207 well services. The achievements in Q1 2025 have seen an increase compared to the same period in 2024 with the completion of drilling work on 3 exploration wells, 163 development wells, 219 workover wells, and 8,323 well services. The numbers don’t lie, folks.
Digging Deeper into Potential and Achievements
PHE is committed to exploring potential from various aspects to achieve set targets, including accelerating the Put on Production (POP) of the Akasia Prima exploration well, discovering the East Pondok Aren-2 appraisal well, Gas on Stream at the Sumber-1A well, and Put on Injection EOR Steamflood at the North Duri Development Area-14 field. In Q1 2025, PHE conducted a 373 km2 3D seismic survey, successfully adding 42.75 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE) contingent resources, consisting of 28.19 million barrels of oil (MMBO) and 84.33 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) of gas. Moreover, PHE has discovered proven oil and gas reserves (P1) of 12.41 MMBOE, including 3.50 MMBO of oil and 51.62 BSCF of gas. These achievements are a result of PHE’s strategy to accelerate production growth while maintaining national energy resilience through baseline production management, massive and effective work plan implementation, and enhancing oil and gas reserves with a focus on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects.
Chalid Said Salim, the CEO of PHE, attributes all these achievements to the hard work of all Officers within Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding and the support of working partners and stakeholders. He emphasizes that these accomplishments were made possible through the implementation of values such as Amanah, Kompeten, Harmonis, Loyal, Adaptif, and Kolaboratif (AKHLAK), along with the spirit of acceleration through innovation, collaboration, and commitment to sustainability from all Officers and Working Partners, as well as continuous support from PHE stakeholders in achieving national energy resilience aligned with the Asta Cita program. VP Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, adds that PHE’s positive performance in the first quarter of this year is expected to support efforts to maintain national energy resilience from the upstream perspective. The positive performance in the upstream sector will serve as tangible evidence of the Pertamina Group’s commitment to national energy security and resilience.
Investing in Sustainable Operations
PHE will continue to invest in the management of upstream oil and gas operations based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company is also committed to Zero Tolerance on Bribery by ensuring fraud prevention and maintaining a clean company free from corruption. One of the initiatives includes the implementation of the Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) standardized under ISO 37001:2016. PHE is dedicated to developing prudent and excellent operational management both domestically and internationally to achieve its goal of becoming a world-class oil and gas company that is environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and governed effectively. Not really sure why this matters, but hey, it’s good to know, right?
In conclusion, PHE’s relentless efforts and achievements in the upstream sector are a testament to their commitment to excellence and sustainability. With a focus on innovation, collaboration, and environmental responsibility, PHE is setting a high standard for the oil and gas industry. So, here’s to PHE for rocking the upstream sector and leading the way towards a more sustainable future!
