Man in West Bandung Faces 10 Years in Prison for Pouring Acid on Wife

In a shocking incident in West Bandung, Dodi Suhendar (34) was arrested for pouring acid on his wife, AFF (29), in Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Jawa Barat. The event unfolded on Tuesday night, January 14, 2025, when Dodi visited AFF’s home to discuss their agreed divorce and financial matters.

Desperate Attempt to Prevent Divorce

According to Kapolres Cimahi, AKBP Tri Suhartanto, Dodi tried to persuade AFF not to proceed with the divorce process. When AFF refused, Dodi resorted to pouring acid, causing serious injuries to his wife. Tri stated, “The perpetrator tried to convince the victim not to divorce. As the victim refused, the perpetrator poured acid that had been prepared in a bottle, resulting in serious injuries.”

Fleeing to Bali

After committing the violent act, Dodi fled by selling his car to escape to Bali. He also attempted to cover his tracks by changing his phone. Dodi flew to Bali through Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, on Friday, January 17, 2025. Fortunately, authorities managed to apprehend Dodi six days later at a hotel in Denpasar Barat, Bali, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Legal Consequences

Dodi now faces charges under Article 43 paragraph 2 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 23 of 2024 concerning Domestic Violence. The penalty for his actions could result in up to 10 years of imprisonment, as stated by Tri Suhartanto.
