Jakarta – Indonesia is poised to become the epicenter of the digital ecosystem within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), according to Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid. In a recent press release from her ministry, Hafid emphasized Indonesia’s strategic position and vast potential compared to other ASEAN countries.
Strategic Collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Hafid highlighted Indonesia’s collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a crucial step towards positioning the nation as a hub for digital transformation in ASEAN. The collaboration, initially set to run from 2022 to 2024, has been extended to further bolster Indonesia’s response to the challenges of digital transformation and the cultivation of digital talents.
During a meeting at the ministry’s office in Jakarta, Hafid urged AWS to ramp up its investment in Indonesia, citing the exponential growth projected for data center capacity in the country. With a forecasted 260 percent increase in the coming years, Indonesia presents a significant opportunity for AWS to expand its footprint in the region.
AWS’ Commitment to Indonesia
Quint Simon, Head of public policy for Asia-Pacific and Japan at AWS, revealed that the bulk of AWS’ investments have been channeled into Indonesia, underscoring the country’s importance as a priority market. AWS has committed to a 15-year investment plan, spanning from 2021 to 2036, solidifying Indonesia’s position as a key focus area for the tech giant.
