**Indonesia and Japan Coast Guard Join Forces to Combat Pirates**
The Indonesian Coast Guard (Bakamla) and the Japanese Coast Guard recently came together for a joint exercise aimed at enhancing their defenses against pirate attacks. This collaborative effort signifies a strong bond between the two nations as they work towards maritime security.
Collaboration Begins
The Japanese Coast Guard made a significant visit to Bakamla at the JICT Pier in North Jakarta, marking the official start of the joint exercise. Rear Admiral Samuel Kowaas, Bakamla Secretary, highlighted the importance of this cooperation and emphasized the positive relationship between Indonesia and Japan.
Simulations and Knowledge Exchange
The joint exercise, set to run until January 26, includes simulations of pirate attacks and exchanges of personnel knowledge. Bakamla will deploy the Pulau Marore ship, while the Japanese Coast Guard will utilize the Settsu ship for the simulations. This exercise aims to strengthen maritime defense capabilities and foster bilateral relations between the two countries.
Expert Insight and Training
Vice Commandant for Operations of the Japan Coast Guard, Kanosue Hiroaki, expressed appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between Japan and Indonesia. He highlighted the importance of deepening this collaboration and shared mutual interests in water security. Additionally, a special Japanese team, the Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), was brought in to provide training on handling crimes at sea.
Mission Success and Future Plans
Captain of the Japan Coast Guard Anti-Piracy Task Force, Nagasaki, commended Indonesia’s success in addressing crimes at sea and reiterated Japan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of maritime areas in Southeast Asia. This deployment marks the 13th mission of Japan Coast Guard vessels to Indonesia out of a total of 50 deployments to the region since 2000.
As both nations continue to work together to combat piracy and enhance maritime security, the joint exercise serves as a testament to their shared commitment towards a safer and more secure maritime environment. Through collaboration and mutual support, Indonesia and Japan are paving the way for a stronger defense against maritime threats and criminal activities at sea.
