Pertamina Celebrates National Awakening Day with a Bang!

So, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, PT Pertamina (Persero) marked the 117th National Awakening Day at the Pertamina Headquarters in Jakarta. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Rise Together to Realize a Strong Indonesia,’ which sounds pretty cool, right?

The event highlighted Pertamina’s 67-year role as the guardian of national energy resilience. Simon Aloysius Mantiri, the CEO of PT Pertamina (Persero), emphasized the historical significance of National Awakening Day in the country’s struggle to stand on its own feet. He stressed Pertamina’s commitment to achieving energy self-reliance in Indonesia.

Now, not really sure why this matters, but Vice President Corporate Communication Fadjar Djoko Santoso mentioned that Pertamina has been serving the nation’s energy needs for 67 years, driving economic growth and progress in all aspects of national life. As a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), Pertamina currently manages 24% of oil blocks, contributing to 69% of the national oil needs and 37% of the gas needs.

Fadjar went on to talk about how important upstream oil and gas activities are in achieving national energy independence. He mentioned that Pertamina allocates a whopping 62% of its Capex to the upstream oil and gas sector. The company also processes domestic upstream oil and gas production in its six refineries, with a total capacity of 920 thousand barrels per day.

In terms of downstream operations, Pertamina is focused on strengthening energy distribution across the country. The company operates over 320 vessels, including 102 of its own ships and 7 Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC). They are continuously improving energy infrastructure to ensure equitable access to affordable energy throughout the nation.

Pertamina’s efforts in the 3T regions (tertinggal, terdepan, terluar – disadvantaged, frontier, outermost) have been noteworthy. They have established One Price Fuel Distributor Agencies in these areas and have opened 6,703 Pertashop outlets to reach remote communities. Through the One Village One Outlet program, they have expanded LPG distribution to 96% of villages nationwide.

With the spirit of National Awakening Day 2025 and stakeholder support, Pertamina is committed to fulfilling the mandate of achieving national energy independence. As a leading company in the energy transition, Pertamina is dedicated to supporting the target of net zero emissions by 2060 and driving programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In conclusion, Pertamina’s focus on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) practices across its business lines and operations demonstrates its commitment to sustainability. The company’s efforts align with the broader goal of ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for Indonesia.
