Fast Train Service “Whoosh” Steams Ahead with 66,000 Passengers Over Long Weekend
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Whoosh high-speed railway, bridging the gap between Jakarta and Bandung, saw a record-breaking surge with approximately 66,000 passengers hopping aboard during the recent long weekend encompassing the holidays for Isra Mi’raj and Chinese New Year from January 24-26, 2025.
Eva Chairunisa, a spokesperson for the fast train operator PT KCIC, revealed in Jakarta on Monday that the average daily passenger count during this period skyrocketed to 22,000, a notable 29 percent jump from the usual 17,000 on regular days.
Peak passenger traffic hit its crescendo on Sunday, January 26, with Southeast Asia’s pioneering high-speed train service welcoming a whopping 22,800 travelers.
“Today, Monday, January 27, 2025, we have already sold 19,000 tickets. The passenger count is expected to surpass 21,000 by the end of the day, as tickets are still available for purchase until the final trip tonight,” Chairunisa emphasized.
Highlighting the remarkable success, Chairunisa disclosed that PT KCIC had sold approximately 105,000 tickets for Whoosh journeys scheduled during the January 24-29 holiday window.
Notably, passengers embarking from the Halim Station in Jakarta to the Padalarang Station in West Bandung dominated the figures, constituting 80 percent of the total passenger tally. The remaining travelers journeyed from Halim to Tegalluar Summarecon and from Halim to Karawang.
Chairunisa also advised passengers disembarking at Padalarang Station to utilize feeder trains for seamless access to other regions in Greater Bandung, as these train schedules have been harmonized with Whoosh’s timetable.
