Fire Breaks Out at Glodok Plaza West Jakarta
A fire broke out at Glodok Plaza in Tamansari, West Jakarta, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. The incident was reported by residents around 9:25 PM. The Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat) responded swiftly, deploying 45 firefighting units to the scene.
Massive Response Effort
The firefighting units comprised 29 from West Jakarta, 6 from Central Jakarta, 4 from North Jakarta, and 1 each from South Jakarta and East Jakarta. Additionally, 4 units from the Jakarta Gulkarmat Department were also mobilized, bringing the total personnel involved to 230 individuals. Despite their efforts, thick black smoke continued to billow from the site well into the early hours of the morning.
Search for Missing Individuals
Tragically, three bodies of fire victims, believed to be employees of Glodok Plaza, have yet to be located as of Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 10:22 AM. Search and rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate both missing staff members and any other individuals who may have been caught in the blaze. Syarifuddin, the Head of Operations at the West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department, emphasized the ongoing search efforts and the challenges faced in confirming the identities of those missing.
