engage-companies-in-land-fire-prevention-for-regional-safety

Alright, so apparently Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq is really pushing for regional governments and companies to team up and tackle those pesky land fires. According to him, we need to get our act together from preventing fires all the way to dealing with the aftermath. Sounds like a plan, right?

At some meeting in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Nurofiq emphasized that we gotta start taking action before the dry season rolls around. He mentioned that there have been 198 potential hotspots detected as of May 16, 2025, which is actually a 62 percent drop from last year. But hey, don’t let that fool you – the risk of fires is still hanging over us, especially in West Kalimantan. I mean, who knew fires could be so sneaky, right?

So, apparently, there have been 167 fires from January to May this year. And guess what? Those pesky hotspots can just pop up again when things start drying out. That’s why Nurofiq is calling for everyone to be on high alert, including regional governments, businesses, and the good ol’ community. And hey, he’s really giving those plantation companies a piece of his mind, especially the ones with cultivation rights. Like, seriously, 79 areas with permits had fires in the last decade, affecting over 42,000 hectares of land. That’s a lot of land going up in smoke, don’t you think?

During that meeting, Nurofiq also had some words for those companies. He’s telling them to get their act together and not just wait around for fires to break out. Oh, and they better have some emergency response system in place and help out with firefighting across regions. Plus, he wants them to keep a map of places that are at risk and have some clear procedures in case things go south. Basically, he’s saying, “Hey companies, get your act together and keep us in the loop.” So, let’s hope they actually listen, right?

So, in a nutshell, it seems like Minister Nurofiq is really on a mission to prevent these land fires from wreaking havoc. And it looks like he’s not messing around when it comes to getting everyone, from governments to businesses, on board. Let’s just hope this collaboration pays off and we can keep those fires at bay. Because, let’s be real, nobody wants to deal with a fiery mess, am I right?
