Nusantara Capital Authority Secures Rp48.8 Trillion Budget for New Capital Development

In a bold move to propel the development of Nusantara City as Indonesia’s new political capital, Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Chief Basuki Hadimuljono has secured a substantial Rp48.8 trillion budget (approximately US$2.98 billion) for the upcoming phase of development. This significant allocation, approved for the 2025-2029 period, will be instrumental in completing the legislative and judiciary complexes, enhancing the supporting ecosystem, and commencing the next phase of Nusantara City.

President Prabowo Subianto has shown keen interest in the project, directing both his administration and the public works ministry to carefully review the grand design for the legislative and judiciary office complexes in the new capital. Recognizing the need for modifications, President Subianto aims for Nusantara City to officially function as Indonesia’s political hub by 2028.

During a recent visit by the Indonesian parliament delegate to the new capital, Chief Hadimuljono expressed his commitment to executing the president’s vision. He announced plans for OIKN and the public works ministry to collaborate on a thorough review of the grand design, ensuring that the allocated budget serves its intended purpose effectively.

Highlighting the significance of the Rp48.8 trillion budget, Hadimuljono emphasized that it will not only cover the completion of the legislative and judiciary complexes but also address the infrastructure needs of the surrounding ecosystem, including essential accommodations for staff members. Moreover, funds will be allocated for the maintenance and management of all completed facilities within the new capital, ensuring their long-term sustainability.

In a strategic move to boost development further, OIKN is actively engaging with private entities for public-private partnership projects totaling Rp60.93 trillion (approximately US$3.77 billion). These ventures will encompass the construction of 97 apartment towers, 129 landed houses, and a solar power plant, all crucial components of the new capital’s infrastructure. Additionally, the investment will support six public-private partnership projects focused on the development of a 138.6-kilometer road and multi-utility tunnel within the Central Government Core Area (KIPP), a project that is already making significant progress.

As the plans for Nusantara City’s development continue to unfold, the collaborative efforts between the government and private sector are poised to shape a promising future for Indonesia’s new political capital. With a clear vision, strategic investments, and dedicated leadership, the transformation of Nusantara City into a thriving center of governance is well underway.
