Accelerating Bank Development in New Capital: OIKN’s Focus
Jakarta – The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) is on a mission to expedite the growth of banks in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of the new capital city Nusantara in East Kalimantan. OIKN head Basuki Hadimuljono emphasized the urgency of accelerating banking services development in Nusantara to establish a complete ecosystem for the residents relocating to the new capital.
Meeting with Leading Banks
In a recent statement, Hadimuljono revealed that the banking service offices are set to commence operations in the first quarter of 2026. This move aims to facilitate quick and efficient banking services tailored to the needs of Nusantara’s inhabitants. He highlighted the preparation of facilities and infrastructure within the capital city, following the President’s directives to transition executive, legislative, and judicial activities to Nusantara by 2028. The groundwork for road construction will kick off in January 2025 with location mapping.
At a meeting with prominent banks in Indonesia, including Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Bank Mandiri, Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), and Bank Central Asia (BCA), Hadimuljono expressed optimism about expediting banking sector investments in Nusantara. The goal is to foster an inclusive economic ecosystem for the advancement of a modern capital city.

During a press conference on January 6, 2025, Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara disclosed that the budget execution for Nusantara’s 2024 development amounted to Rp43.4 trillion (approximately US$2.64 billion), achieving 97.3 percent of the initial ceiling of Rp44.5 trillion. The total allocation for the new capital’s development from 2022 to 2024 totaled Rp75.8 trillion (around US$4.62 billion).
