BGN Ramadan Takeaway Meals: Nourishing Students During Ramadan

In an effort to ensure that students have access to nutritious meals during the holy month of Ramadan, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, announced plans to provide takeaway meals for students in March this year. This initiative falls under the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and aims to make it more convenient for students to have nourishing meals during the fasting period.

Importance of Takeaway Meals for Students

According to Hindayana, these takeaway meals will allow students to bring food home and consume it during Iftar, the evening meal to break the fast. Recognizing that meals are an essential part of the fasting experience, the agency is taking proactive steps to ensure that students have access to nutritious food during this significant time.

Collaboration and Expansion of the MBG Program

In order to reach more students and accelerate the implementation of the program, the BGN has partnered with the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU). This collaboration includes plans to sign a memorandum of understanding on January 31, 2025, to expand the reach of the MBG program and drive economic growth in Islamic boarding school environments.

Impact and Future of the Free Nutritious Meals Program

The Free Nutritious Meals program, spearheaded by President Prabowo, is currently operational in 31 provinces with the assistance of 238 nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs). This initiative serves approximately 650 thousand individuals, including children, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers, highlighting the significant impact it has on vulnerable populations.
